    Personalised learning environments (PLEs)
There is much discussion in education today about providing eLearning tools and whether these tools should be housed in virtual learning environments (VLEs) or personalised learning environments (PLEs). If you are not sure what the difference is between a VLE and a PLE then listen to Alan Cann explain the difference Interesting discussion and ideas? What does this mean to education in the 21st Century? What does it mean to you and how you manage the web and its wonderful array of tools that allow you to connect to colleagues, like minded people, friends and family?
We are all aware that the landscape of the web is changing at such a rapid pace providing many new tools that are simple to use and very robust. This makes it so easy for students and educators to engage in the learning experience for no or little cost. This constantly changing environment makes it impossible for educational institutions to react and keep up to date with current tools. There is also not one solution that will meet the needs of all students and teachers, especially with the growing emphasis and need to provide personalised learning for our students. People want to design their own personalised space where they can access favourite sites, feeds, bookmarks and photo-sharing etc. Life and work intermingle and the profile of a PLE changes constantly. The following graphic outlines some of the potential tools that you could add to a PLE. It is not suggesting that all of these tools need to be used, tools are added as people identify a need and as their experience and knowledge in the use of these tools grows and develops.

Some of my work to date:
I acknowledge that many of the projects listed have been the result of a team of talented people. I have been the project manager and for the APTC projects I am now also the site administrator. I no longer manage the SWSi or Sydney Institute sites.
